How to Root Sony Xperia Z on both Locked and Unlocked Bootloaders

Sony Xperia Z is the latest and by far the most promising Android Smart Phone by Sony. Rooting in Android is an act of accessing root user permissions which can be useful to install Apps that need root access and boost up the performance of your Android device.



Note that rooting may void your device warranty, So Try this at your own risk.

The following rooting method applicables for both unlocked and locked bootloaders. Refer this XDA thread to unlock and re-lock the bootloader of Sony Xperia Z.

Pre-Requisites

  • This rooting method is for Sony Xperia Z which comes with Jelly Bean Android version (10.1.D.0.31710.1.D.0.32210.1.A.1.350).You can check Android version by visiting Settings >> About the Phone
  • You need to install ABD drivers on your Windows PC. Get the drivers from here.
  • Windows 8 users follow this guide to change the settings before installing the drivers mentioned above.
  • Download this rooting tool kit (1.9Mb)

Rooting

follow the steps sequentially
  1. You need to increase screen timeout to 10 mins : Settings >> Display >> Sleep >> 10 mins
  2. Enable USB Debugging mode Settings >> Developer options >> Enable and Settings >> Developer options >> USB Debugging (check the option)
  3. Enable install from “unknown sources” option : Settings >> Security  >> Unknown source (check the option)
  4. Save the rooting tool kit (.zip file) mentioned above in C drive (C:) and Extract it there itself.
  5. Quit applications like PC Suite, PC Companion, Flashtool, etc. as they will interfere with the rooting process.
  6. Now Connect your phone to PC and run “runme.bat” file from the extracted folder (step 4)
  7. Wait for few seconds till you get the option “press the button to restore the data in your phone”
  8. Now do not down your Phone screen, it will start an App automatically and Select Restore data.
  9. You will see the message “if Restoring data is complete” in command prompt
  10. Now open your phone and dial this number *#*#7378423#*#*
  11. Select the option “Service tests” in your phone operation
  12. Now select the option “Display”. Now the screen will turn white and few commands will be executed automatically.
  13. Now press the power button to turn off screen, wait for few seconds and press it again (repeat it a few times) and keep observing the command prompt for outputs
  14. Finally you will see the messages like “transfer files to your phone part2“, “installing busybox,su,Superuser,etc…” & finally “Cleaning up
  15. Now your phone will automatically restart.

Wouldnt it be nice if youre phone automatically plays your song list right when you step in your car? Or what about letting you show your whole day agenda the moment you arrive at your work table between 8-9am? These are just examples on how Sony Xperia Z2s Smart Connect app works. With this app, you can set an event to happen on your device at certain times or what will happen when you connect/disconnect accessories like headset or charger. Hereshow to use it.

1. On your devices home Lcd, tap on .
2. Look for Smart Connect and tap on it.
3. If its your first time opening the said app, tap on OK to close the introduction Lcd.
4. Go to Events tab and tap on the plus (+) icon.
5. Type in a name for the event and tap on Create.
6. Under When, add either an accessory ( like what happens on your device when you connect your headset) or a time interval or could be both.
7. Under Do This, add what you want to happen on your device.
8. Under At the End, add what you want to happen to your device when you disconnect your accessory or when the time interval ends.

How to Share Contacts Music Files Photos or Videos and Web Address Using NFC on Sony Xperia Z2

2. Then go to More.
3. Mark the NFC checkbox.

To share a contact with another device using NFC

1. Make sure that both devices have the NFC function turned on, and that both Lcds are active.
2. To view contacts, go to your Home Lcd, tap , then tap Person icon.
3. Tap the contact that you want to share.
4. Hold your device and the receiving device back to back so that the NFC detection areas of each device touch each other. When the devices connect, a thumbnail of the contact appears.
5. Tap the thumbnail to start the transfer.
6. When the transfer is done, the contact information is displayed on the Lcd of the receiving device and is also saved on the receiving device.

To share a music file with another device using NFC

1. Make sure that both your device and the receiving device have the NFC function turned on, and that both Lcds are active.
2. To open the "WALKMAN™" application, tap , then find and tap Walkman icon.
3. Select a music category and browse to the track you want to share.
4. Tap the track to play it. You can then tap Pause icon to pause the track. The transfer works whether the track is playing or paused.
5. Hold your device and the receiving device back to back so that the NFC detection areas of each device touch each other. When the devices connect, a thumbnail of the track appears.
6. Tap the thumbnail to start the transfer.
7. When the transfer is done, the music file plays immediately on the receiving device. At the same time, the file is saved on the receiving device.

To share a photo or video with another device using NFC

2. To view photos and videos in your device, go to your Home Lcd, tap , then find and tap Album.

  4. Tap Factory data reset
  5. Tap Reset phone
  6. Tap Erase Everything

Warning! All data will be erased from device memory, including system and application data, settings and downloaded applications. Back up your important data.  The device will restore to factory settings.

If your phone hangs or does not responding, Press and hold power key about 10 seconds.  It will rebooting automatically.  Or remove and re insert the battery and SIM Card.
